2024 Recap!

Celebrating a Year of Remarkable Achievements with EWB-NY Professional Chapter

Dear EWB-NY Professional Chapter Community,

As we wrap up another amazing year, let’s take a moment to look back at all the incredible things we’ve accomplished together. This year has been nothing short of extraordinary, and it’s all thanks to the dedication, hard work, and passion of our fantastic community.

Highlights of Our Year:

  1. Chimaltenango: We received a record donation of $50,000 from Ramboll and the Syracuse Professional Chapter for our Chimaltenango project. This generous contribution will make a huge difference in improving water access and sanitation in Guatemala.
  2. Kibingo: The team successfully completed their spring improvement project, which was first dreamed up in 2018. Now, the community has a reliable and clean water source, thanks to everyone’s hard work.
  3. Misuuni Latrine Project: After ten years of effort, the Misuuni community in Kenya wrapped up their latrine project. This means safer and more hygienic conditions for schools and households, making a big impact on health and well-being.
  4. Rubaya Fundraiser: Rubaya held a holiday fundraiser and raised over $4,000! This is the most we’ve ever raised in a single event, showing just how generous and supportive our community is.
  5. New Project Team: With so much interest in our chapter, we’ve formed a brand new project team. This means we can take on even more impactful projects and keep making a difference.
  6. Northeast Regional Conference at UConn: On March 24th, we helped run the Northeast Regional Conference at UConn. It was a fantastic event, full of workshops, panel discussions, and networking opportunities that brought us all closer together.
  7. Regional Steering Committee Involvement: We’ve been super involved with our regional steering committee. Huge thanks to our co-presidents, Herbert Ramirez and Joshua Kogan, for their amazing leadership and dedication.
  8. Student Chapter Engagement: We connected with over five student chapters, including Stevens Institute of Technology, Rutgers, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Fordham University, and more. This collaboration is helping us build a stronger network and inspire the next generation of engineers.

Over 100 interested members have reached out to join our chapter this year. Our new members bring diverse skills and perspectives, making our community even richer. We’ve raised over $70,000 this year, which is incredible! I could not be more proud of the efforts of all of our volunteers.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you….

To all our dedicated volunteers, thank you for your hard work and unwavering support. You are the backbone of our success. To our generous sponsors, thank you for your gracious donations. Your contributions make our projects possible and help us create lasting change. To the communities we work with, thank you for collaborating with us so selflessly for the greater good. Your partnership is invaluable, and we are honored to work alongside you.

As we look forward to 2025, I hope everyone has a great and relaxing holiday with their family and friends. Let’s come into the new year stronger, together!

Signing off,

Uma Lakshman, EWB-NY President
